Check engine lights, low power and rough idle traced to the real cause before anything gets replaced.

A trouble code is where a diagnosis starts, not where it ends. The code tells you which reading the computer did not like. It does not tell you why. A low rail pressure code can come from a clogged fuel filter, a weak lift pump, a leaking injector or a failing high-pressure pump, and those are very different jobs. A real diagnosis reads the codes and then tests, watching live data with the engine running and comparing what the sensors report against what the engine should be doing. The simple things get checked first. Parts come up only after the testing points at one cause.
The expensive version of this job is skipping it. Swap the sensor a code named, clear the light, and the truck feels fine for a week. Then the light comes back, because the sensor was reporting a real problem somewhere else. Low power works the same way. Fuel, air, boost and exhaust flow all have to line up on a diesel, and a fault in one can look like a fault in another. A boost leak can send someone after the turbo, and a plugged filter can look like a bad injector. Replacing parts until the light stays off gets costly, and you still may not have the answer.
A few things help before you bring the truck in. Write down when it happens: cold or warm, empty or towing, at idle or under load, right after a fuel stop. Note any smoke and its color. Try not to clear the codes first, because the data stored when the fault set is useful to whoever works on it. If the truck is running hot or has dropped into reduced power, ask us before you keep driving it. Call (530) 320-4702 with the year, the make and what it is doing. We explain what we found and what it will cost before any work starts.
“Top notch diagnotics on my 6.7 Ram EGR problems. Thanks so much!”
It tells you which codes are stored, and that is a useful start. It does not test anything. A code points at a system or a reading, and the cause still has to be found.
It is worth a call. A light that comes and goes can mean a fault that only shows up under certain conditions, and the computer often keeps a record of it after the light goes out.
The year, the make and what the truck is doing, plus when it started. If you have code numbers, give us those too. The more detail you have on when it happens, the better.
Diesel repair, diagnostics, EGR and emissions repair, turbo and intake work, performance upgrades, and routine maintenance. If you're not sure, just ask.
Yes. Bring in one truck or several. We'll keep your work trucks maintained and on the road.
Always. We explain what we found and what it will cost before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
