EGR valves, coolers, sensors and DPF faults tracked down and repaired so your truck runs right.

The emissions system on a modern diesel is a set of parts that have to work together. The EGR valve sends a measured amount of exhaust back into the intake to bring combustion temperatures down. The EGR cooler takes the heat out of that exhaust first. The diesel particulate filter, or DPF, traps soot and burns it off during a process called regeneration, or regen. Sensors watch all of it. When one piece drifts out of range, the computer notices, turns on a light and may cut power to protect the engine. That is why an emissions fault can feel exactly like an engine problem.
Soot is at the bottom of a lot of these jobs. It packs into EGR valves until they stick, and it clogs coolers. A cooler can also start leaking coolant, which is worth catching early. DPF trouble is often a symptom, not the disease. If an injector is leaking, the EGR is sticking or a sensor is reading wrong, the filter loads up faster than the truck can clean it. Deal with the filter alone and you will likely be back with the same message. Clearing a code has the same problem, because it turns off the light and leaves the cause in place. We find the cause before replacing parts.
How you drive matters here. A regen needs heat and time, so trucks that make short trips or idle a lot have a harder job keeping the DPF clean. If your dash says a regen is running, let it finish when you safely can instead of shutting off right away. Do not sit on a filter warning either, because a truck that goes too long can drop into reduced power and may not clean itself out on its own. Write down any message you see and call (530) 320-4702. We will explain what we found and what it will cost before any work starts.
“Top notch diagnotics on my 6.7 Ram EGR problems. Thanks so much!”
Either the truck is not getting the heat and time a regen needs, from short trips and idling, or something else is making extra soot. Leaking injectors, a sticking EGR and bad sensors are the usual places to look.
You can, and the light may stay off for a while. It comes back because the cause is still there, and clearing it also wipes data that helps find the problem.
A rough idle, low power, smoke or a check engine light are the common signs. Those can point to other problems too, which is why it gets tested before anything is replaced.
