Diesel repair covers a lot of ground, and at our shop it comes down to four areas: injectors, the fuel system, cooling and electrical. They are tied together more than people expect. Modern common-rail engines push fuel at extremely high pressure through parts made to very tight tolerances, so a bit of water or dirt that a gas engine might shrug off can do real damage here. Injector trouble shows up as a rough idle, smoke, hard starts or fuel in the oil. A cooling problem can start as a slow coolant loss that nobody notices until the truck gets hot.
What goes wrong on a rushed repair is usually the second failure. When a high-pressure fuel pump comes apart, it can send metal through the rails and injectors, and replacing only the pump leaves that metal in the system to wreck the new one. Replace one injector without asking why it failed, and the bad fuel or restricted filter behind it can go after the next one. Electrical work is the same. A bad ground or a rubbed wire can make a healthy part look dead, so the part gets replaced and the fault stays. We find the real cause, walk you through it, and only do the work you approve.
Around Lincoln, heat is the one to watch. Summers here are hot and dry, and Auburn sits about 1,000 feet above us, so a loaded truck heading up into the foothills in July is asking a lot of its cooling system. If the temperature gauge is creeping, you keep topping off coolant, or you smell coolant after a drive, do not wait on it. An engine that overheats can turn a small leak into a much bigger repair. Call (530) 320-4702 before you head over and tell us what the truck is doing.
“MDP and the whole team have been nothing but helpful and were extremely fast with getting my truck back on the road. 10/10 would recommend.”
Rough idle, a miss, smoke from the exhaust, hard starts and worse mileage are the common ones. Each of those can have other causes too, so it gets tested before anyone pulls injectors.
We would not push it. A small leak can turn into an overheat quickly, especially under load or in summer heat, and overheating can damage the engine. Call us and tell us what you are seeing.
Go easy on the starter and call us. Tell us what the truck did right before it quit, and whether it cranks at all. That helps narrow it down to fuel, electrical or something else.
